This prize was created in 1996 in honor of Dr. Yoji Akao, co-founder of QFD, who was convinced that the substantial evolution and contribution of QFD world wide merited recognition of those who had made it possible.

Glenn Mazur, Executive Director of the QFD Institute said that “The QFD Institute takes great pride in awarding the 2007 Akao Prize to Dr. Saaty. His contribution to the field of quality management through his theory, The Analytic Hierarchy Process, is broad-reaching and substantial.”

“We are pleased that the QFD Institute is recognizing Dr. Thomas Saaty for his contribution to this very fundamental field. It is gratifying on both a professional and a personal level for my brother Daniel and myself that the life work of our father and the creator of the Analytic Hierarchy Process continues to have such an impact” said John Saaty, CEO of Decision Lens and son of the award recipient.

The Akao Prize is now awarded to individuals around the world who have demonstrated Excellence in their practice and dissemination of QFD for many years.
