Controller
Decision Lens is seeking a hands-on, technically strong Controller to lead the accounting function and the financial close. This role is critical to maintaining accurate, GAAP-compliant financial reporting while supporting the complexities of a growing, PE-backed software and services business serving the federal market. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can build scalable processes to support continued growth in a sponsor-reporting environment. This position reports to the CFO.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, delivering timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
- Lead revenue recognition under ASC 606, particularly for combined SaaS subscription and embedded/professional services arrangements, including multi-element allocation and percentage-of-completion where applicable.
- Manage core accounting operations: AR, AP, payroll, general ledger, fixed assets, and treasury/cash management.
- Track and report SaaS metrics (ARR, gross and net retention, Rule of 40, etc.) and services utilization/margins to support management and the PE sponsor.
- Prepare monthly reporting packages and support board, lender, and sponsor reporting requirements, including covenant compliance.
- Own the annual audit and tax processes as primary liaison to external auditors and tax advisors.
- Maintain a strong internal control environment and drive process/system improvements as the company scales.
- Ensure compliance with federal contracting requirements, supporting DCAA-compliant accounting practices, cost accounting, and contract billing (e.g., FFP, T&M, cost-reimbursable) as applicable.
- Manage and mentor the accounting team.
- Support FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc analysis in partnership with the CFO.
- Support due diligence and integration for future M&A/add-on acquisitions.

Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience.
- Deep expertise in ASC 606 revenue recognition for SaaS and services-based businesses.
- Experience in a private equity-backed and/or high-growth environment, with sponsor and lender reporting exposure.
- Knowledge of federal government contracting and DCAA/FAR/cost accounting requirements.
- Strong technical accounting, close management, and internal controls background.
- Experience with ERP systems and modern accounting/reporting tools; systems implementation experience a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and comfort operating hands-on in a lean team.
Location: Decision Lens operates in a remote environment (Washington, DC area preferred). Our headquarters are located in Arlington, VA.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $150,000–$200,000 per year. The range reflects that this role may be filled at varying seniority levels; actual compensation will be determined by factors including relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity. This position is also eligible for bonus.
