TRADOC

Welcome to the TRADOC - Decision Lens Community Page, the portal for gaining knowledge and awareness of Decision Lens capabilities and resources. Start here to find answers to common questions such as "What is Decision Lens?" to "How do I get trained and learn more?"

Decision Lens is a software company that has been serving the Federal Government since 2006. Decision Lens’ software (DL) helps DoD prioritize their most important assets (e.g. budgets, programs, people, buildings, systems, capabilities), and allocate finite resources ($$, people) against those priorities intelligently.

Current Decision Lens Use at TRADOC

UFR Request and G-8

TRADOC’s budget office provides strategic resource, force, and acquisition management leadership, stewardship, and advice to TRADOC and the Army enterprise, however, their ability to collect and prioritize 100 Unfunded Requirements annually was hindered by a manual, tedious, and time intensive process that utilized a SharePoint database, and multiple Excel spreadsheets. They needed a solution that would provide them with transparency and a single platform for streamlined and integrated processes. Decision Lens allowed them to aggregate all information into one platform, accessible to all stakeholders. They were able to prioritize their UFRs using objective, qualitative criteria. Since implementing Decision Lens as a one-year pilot program they have seen a 25% time improvement in their UFR process.

Resource Management (CASCOM)

The U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM) Requirements Management collects all data from all schools within CASCOM that require funding. When funding changes, the analysts must update funding amounts, dates, etc. Prior to Decision Lens they were using a SharePoint system to update funding amounts, dates, and other information. Through Decision Lens they have been able to decrease their manual efforts and increase their data integrity for a “smoother” and “faster” process. Many CoE’s also utilize Decision Lens to justify their resource strategy so that they can thoughtfully plan, program, and execute limited resources. Decision Lens has helped them increase their efficiency by 25%-50% and to transform a time consuming, manual process through automation.

Functional Training Course Prioritization

Functional Training courses within PARD have a limited budget and must be prioritized annually to determine what will be provided and what will be cut. Prior to Decision Lens, the process relied heavily on Microsoft Access and Excel, and multi-day in-person review board meetings. Decision Lens has helped with risk analysis and prioritization for functional training by providing a single system of record that would allow them to allocate their limited funding towards courses with the biggest impact. This has led to a reduction in review board meetings from 5 days to 1.5 days, a time savings of a bout 40% or 400 hours, and a 56% cost savings in their prioritization process.

Brigade Spend Plan Tracking

Operational Brigades and their supporting subordinate commands may have differing budgets and processes, but using Decision Lens’s cloud-based, real-time software to manage their financial portfolios enables seamless flow and tracking of multiple budget streams through a consolidated view. The system facilitates stakeholder collaboration to request, manage, validate, and track requirements from strategy to execution. Users can track monthly obligation amounts against allocations, while customizable goal lines report how close they are to meeting required financial targets. When funding is impacted by changing conditions, the Decision Lens Data Studio helps decision makers pivot and react based on priorities and risk. Brigades, subordinate commands, and senior leaders benefit from ease of data flow, visuals, and transparency, while maintaining the line of site of financials to supporting the mission.
