Arlington, Virginia — With skyrocketing oil prices increasing the demand for nuclear power, the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will be under more pressure to regulate the use of this energy source. Established by Congress in 1974, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory is an independent agency that regulates commercial nuclear power plants and other uses of nuclear materials, such as in nuclear medicine, through licensing, inspection and enforcement of its requirements.
