DECISION LENS SELECTED BY WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR CAPITAL PLANNING

Decision Lens, the leading provider of cloud-based prioritization and resource optimization software, announced today that it has been chosen by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to assist the Capital Facilities group to build and prioritize their Facilities Improvement Plan. The group’s main challenge is to manage 3.7 million square feet of facilities while at the same time prioritizing capital improvement projects with only a fraction of the budget necessary to complete them. Utilizing Decision Lens, the WSDOT Capital Facilities Group will tackle two primary challenges: determining how to cherry pick $473 million in project requests with a budget of only $3.2 million, and how to tactfully request additional funding from the Washington State Legislature.

The State Department of Transportation, WSDOT is responsible for 18,600 state highway lane-miles, more than 3,600 bridge structures, including the four longest floating bridges in the United States, 47 safety rest areas, 23 ferry vessels active in the largest vehicle-ferry system in the world, 20 ferry terminals, 23 million ferry passengers annually, $16.3 billion capital improvement program, and more than 6,800 full-time employees. WSDOT tracks, reports, and manages its programs and project according to the six transportation policy goals adopted by the Legislature. The six policy goals are safety, preservation, mobility (congestion relief), environment, stewardship, and economic vitality. Learn more at http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/.

“Today’s state transportation departments are being tasked to be smarter with their budgets and resources, ultimately replacing an in-house process used over decades to make resourcing decisions with Decision Lens — an advanced technology platform that enables decision makers to make wise choices when it comes to billions of dollars in taxpayer funds,” said John Kealey, CEO of Decision Lens. “The Washington State Department of Transportation will have the necessary tools to more quickly and accurately prioritize their projects and allocate the optimal amount of budget.”

Decision Lens provides guidance and support for mass transit agencies and transportation departments throughout the country. The company works closely with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority to prioritize resources and projects. The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), San Francisco Municipal Transit Authority (SFMTA), Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), Utah Transit Authority (UTA) and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PENNDOT) also use Decision Lens for planning and resource optimization among others.
