DECISION LENS SELECTED BY BOEING US AND UK FOR R&D PRIORITIZATION AND RESOURCE ALLOCATION

Decision Lens Platform Enables Boeing Decision Makers to Evaluate Risks, Costs, and Resources of New Chinook Helicopters

Decision Lens, the leading provider of cloud-based prioritization and resource optimization software, announced today that it was selected by Boeing’s U.S. and U.K. Chinook groups to provide platform modernization and configuration models; platform research and development prioritization; and risk mitigation and prioritization in support of capability and GAP analysis. By utilizing Decision Lens Boeing’s U.S. and U.K. Chinook groups are able to tabulate a 20-year projected blueprint on the risks, costs and resources to construct the Chinook helicopter in order to pinpoint and achieve maximum efficiencies.

The U.S. based Chinook group has completed multiple cycles of platform modernization and research and development models in support of providing the U.S. Army with the best options for the next Chinook platform. Potential projects are rated against a set of desirable capability enhancements. Resource allocation is leveraged to identify what Boeing can secure for various levels of investment.

The U.K. based group completed prioritization of risk mitigation strategies identified for the Chinook platform over the next 20 years. Multiple stakeholder groups (operators, maintenance, and leadership) weighted a set of key risks and rated mitigation strategies (alternatives) against that framework. Complex resource allocation was used to identify optimal mitigation projects to pursue and to schedule.

The Chinook is a multi-mission, heavy-lift transport helicopter. Its primary mission is to move troops, artillery, ammunition, fuel, water, barrier materials, supplies and equipment on the battlefield. Its secondary missions include medical evacuation, disaster relief, search and rescue, aircraft recovery, fire fighting, parachute drops, heavy construction and civil development. Chinook helicopters were introduced in 1962 as the CH-47 Chinook, and models A, B and C were deployed in Vietnam. As the product of a modernization program, which included refurbishing existing CH-47s, the first CH-47Ds were delivered in 1982 and were produced until 1994. A central element in the Gulf War, they continue to be the standard for the U.S. Army in the global campaign against terrorism. Since its introduction 1,179 Chinooks have been built.

“Mapping out the development of next generation commercial and defense aerospace equipment is a highly complex task and Decision Lens provides the platform necessary to neatly fit all those pieces together so decision makers can compare and contrast their options before committing to the project,” said John Kealey, CEO of Decision Lens. “Boeing U.S. and U.K. Chinook groups are separately planning future build outs of the helicopter and discovered that Decision Lens can provide their decision makers with the foresight necessary to wisely account for the resources, costs, risks and priorities that are often times impossible to plan for all at the same time when dealing with a project of this magnitude.”

The company serves numerous well-known commercial clients including Kraft, Genentech, Johnson & Johnson, and Shell, among other organizations. Decision Lens software also is used widely throughout the Federal government with clients in the US Navy, the Joint Staff and USDA, and in state and local organizations including PennDOT, California Technology Agency, SFMTA, and UTA among many others.
